Weekend Wrap-Up: Stone Mountain State Park

Our family enjoyed a weekend camping trip at Stone Mountain State park in Roaring Gap, North Carolina.

Here's a pic of Stone Mountain.

This was our home away from home for two nights. We went camping with two other families.

We went on an adventure Saturday to Widows Creek Falls. It was a short trek to the God-made water park......and much cheaper than Emerald Pointe.

Can you tell by Hayden's body language that the water was cold?

Drake prepares to slide down the waterslide. Lots of folks bring trash bags for a swifter ride. We used a few others left behind.

The view of the sky from our campsite at dusk was glorious.

We hiked to Stone Mountain Falls this morning. The picture at the beginning of the post was also taken there. We really enjoyed camping...the only negative was having to miss church. Yet we did have a weekend of opportunities to admire God's marvelous creation. We're hoping to go camping again Labor Day weekend. If you have a suggestion for a camping destination, leave a comment.

The video clips below were taken at Widows Creek Falls, the highlight of the trip.

  1. Looks like a really fun weekend! You're braver than I, no camping in my future. I'm not much into "roughing it" although I do love to see God's beautiful creation.

We're off on a weekend trip this coming Friday to the mountains... except we're staying in a two bedroom suite at Stone Lodge in Waynesville ;-) AND we're leaving the two little ones behind with Granny so we can have fun with the big kids. I can't wait!

Maybe I could be convinced to go camping once the kids are much much older!

  2. I love camping, but haven't been in awhile b/c of the little one. I am definitly adding Stone Mountain to my list. Have you been to Morrow Mountain State Park? We have hiked it, but not camped there. It has boats you can rent and a pool to swim in. I can't wait till our boys are a little older to take them camping!

  3. This looks like way too much fun. The kids and hubby want to start camping, but they want to go for the big camparoo. Can you just see Greg roughing it in a tent??? We shall see.

No need for another destination, this one seems perfect!! Can I go with you?
