Washing dishes by hand also made us aware of just how many dishes a family of five uses in a given day. I must confess that often we chose to use disposable items to cut down on the amount of dishes.

Teamwork
We were without a dishwasher for the holiday season so we had a lot of child labor going on at our house. We spent a lot of quality time together over the past month during "dish duty." It required teamwork and sparked conversations.

Late last week J.J. came home with a surprise for the family....a new automatic dishwasher!
Even big kids like to spend time playing in boxes. It sure beats washing more dishes!

The installation was a success and we now enjoy one of life's luxuries once again. I must add that we have heard little complaining about clearing off plates and loading them in the dishwasher or about unloading it and putting the dishes away. Being without a dishwasher for a season taught us all a lesson on being thankful.
