Losing Latte

I have been putting off this post for weeks, but it is time. Our Latte is gone. She disappeared about a month ago and we miss her so.

What happened to her remains a mystery. She was left outside while we were gone to school and work on Wednesday, March 19th. She was wearing a collar with an ID tag. We never got a call. She never came home.

Latte was our 2nd chocolate lab. Our first was Mocha whom we enjoyed for 10 years. We loved on Latte for just over 4 years.

Latte went camping with us many times. She was a good camping dog. She was friendly and seldom barked. She liked to lounge around.

Latte had some quirks. She had a fear of going down the steps in our house. She would spin around and around at the top of the stairs and then would finally get the courage to go down, unless someone would give her a little push!

Latte was persistent. When she was outside and wanted in, she would scratch on the door until someone let her in.

She liked to sleep on Hayden's bed or on a pile of dirty laundry. She had a little white spot of hair on her chest. I called it the whipped cream on our Latte.

Latte was such a sweet dog. She never met a stranger. She really liked to get treats , which didn't happen too often. She knew where the treats were kept and would sit in front of the cabinet and wait for one. She'd wait as long as it took.

On the exact day that Latte went missing, our neighbors got a new puppy.
Frankie brought Maddie over to meet Latte. They never got to meet.

Maddie is a bloodhound/lab mix. She came from the animal shelter. She likes to sit in Latte's spot on the porch. One day I caught a glimpse of Maddie sitting there and thought it was Latte. Maddie has a spot of white hair on her chest just like Latte did. Having Maddie around has helped our grief of losing a pet. We hope to get another dog in the coming months once our schedule slows down a bit. Maybe when school is out.

We miss our little Latte. We loved her so. We do not know what happened, but we have great memories of the years she was in our family. She will remain in our hearts forever!
