Easter Weekend

Our family got together with my brothers and their families over the Easter weekend. Here's all of my dad's grandchildren!

Good Friday was cold and rainy. We celebrated Jake's 30th birthday over lunch at Ichaban's in Salisbury.

Jake opens his card.

The kids enjoyed watching the chef (they'd never been to a Japanese restaurant before) and the umbrellas that came with their drinks. After we ate, we headed over to Tinseltown to see Rio.

On Saturday, we gathered at Jake's for a cookout.

We were glad my dad was able to come out. Unfortunately, we spent Sunday afternoon at the ER because of an infection, but he's doing great today.

Olivia dashes off to hunt for eggs.

Hayden found the "stinky" egg and Drake found the most.

When we got home, Corinna lost her second front tooth.

Lake Reidsville Campout

We spent this past weekend camping at Lake Reidsville.

It was our first camping trip in our pop-up and we had a great time. We are thankful that we remained safe as high winds, rain, and tornadoes passed through the piedmont triad. Due to the weather, the soccer tournament that Drake was scheduled to play in closeby was cancelled.

Latte has become quite the camping dog and enjoyed sleeping on Corinna's bed in the pop-up.

The campground is maintained by the Parks and Rec Dept. and had lots of outdoor activites including soccer fields.

Gotta love campfires!

A few other soccer players and their families joined us. We adopted another child, Hudson, for the weekend.

It rained a bit Saturday.

The rain may have stopped the soccer action at Bryan Park, but not at Lake Reidsville Park.

They had to hit the pole on the basketball goal to score.

The rain got heavy and the wind was strong Saturday afternoon. We took cover in the camper.

The kids played some rummy. Eventually we ran to the bathhouse for shelter for a little while. After the storm the weather was delightful.

Corinna and Hayden spent some time on the playground.

Fishing time!

All the children caught several fish apiece.

We ate lots of good food cooked on the campfire.

Sunday we played disc golf. They had a really nice course.

We plan to return to Lake Reidsville for another camping adventure. There was lots to do, it was close to home (about 50 minutes from Lexington) and the rates were afforable ($15 a night).
If you have a favorite camping spot, leave a comment. We want to try new places and go back to some of our favorite destinations.

All County Choir

Hayden was selected by his music teacher to be in the All County Chorus. He practiced with fellow Southwood students every Thursday for the past few months.
This past weekend, all of the children chosen to sing with the All County Chorus gathered at Mt. Zion church to deliver their concert.

We really enjoyed the performance. Hayden did a wonderful job and was one of the most expressive singers in the group. He's singing his heart out in the clip below. We're proud of you Hayden and pray that you'll always sing with such enthusiasm and joy!

Back In Second Grade....

I've been back in second grade for just over three weeks now. I started my current subbing position on March 23rd. I have really enjoyed it so far. I returned to the school where I taught 2nd grade for another teacher on maternity leave from the first day of school until mid-November. I get to finish out the year with this class. They are a wonderful group of students. Overall they work hard and are well-behaved.

Sometimes they act a little goofy, but don't we all? I'm hoping that the past two years of long-term subbing will help me land a full-time position for next year. I plan on working on my application during Spring Break (I actually get 4 days and my own children only get 2). I'm not saying that I won't be counting down the days til school's out. By June 10th, I will be ready for summer vacation!
