Rewind: Coffee House Poetry

Last Friday, Drake's class and another second grade class held a Coffee House Poetry reading for parents to attend. The students shared what they learned in their poetry unit.

Each student read an original poem.

"I saw a baker

making a cake.

It was for a mole

in a hole."

Rewind: A Few From The Zoo

It was unseasonably warm on January 18th and the kids were out of school for MLK Day. We decided to take a trip to the zoo. Our neighbors joined us. We ate lunch upon arrival and spent the afternoon getting some exercise and looking at animals.

Can you find it?

Twins? No, just best friends.

There was a new, interesting honey bee section.

Lots of others we are the zoo too. It was such a wonderful day for it. And the plus is that we have a season pass so it was cheap entertainment.

Rewind: A Birthday And Basketball

Since I experienced computer problems recently, I was unable to blog. So I'm gonna play catch up this week. I'm rewinding back to 1/16/10. Corinna attended a Birthday Teaparty for her sweet friend.

Here's the 5 year old birthday girl!

Corinna opted to wear her costume from "Cinderella" for the fancy ocasion.

After making jewelry boxes, the lovely ladies enjoyed their teaparty. The mom's had a nice meal as well.

Next door, the guys had a get-together too.

Daniel observed from the window. Smart move.

Later that day, Drake had his first basketball game of the season. Here are a few shots of the action.

At half time, each player gets to shoot a foul shot to try to add to the team's score.

Drake is great at defense. He's not sure if basketball is for him, but we'll finish out the season and see.

Nasty Virus

Well, last week my computer picked up a nasty virus via Facebook. I suppose there are people around that get their kicks from seeing how many folks will pick up and spread a trojan horse. We thought the virus was gone thanks to a friend from church coaching us through the removal process. But still, weird things keep popping up on the screen and I am having trouble uploading my pictures. We've had a good week, despite the computer virus. I'm hoping to catch you up with some pics before the weekend is over. And may our computer get completely well soon!

Flashback Friday: The Three Musketeers?

All for one and one for all? Well, not usually....but sometimes. Here's a photo taken on 9/30/2006 when the children were 6, 4, and 2 (nearly 6 1/2, 5, and 3). Now my baby is 6! Yes, time sure does fly.

Max The Dog

Auditions for LYT's (Lexington Youth Theatre) upcoming performance of "Seussical the Musical" were last week. Hayden was cast as the Grinch's loyal companion, Max the Dog.

In the book, when the Grinch disguises himself as Santy Claus, Max is transformed into a makeshift reindeer.

Rehearsals begin tomorrow and the performances will be March 13-15th. At this point, we are unsure if Hayden will have any speaking parts, but we are proud nonetheless. He was also cast as a Who. So mark your calendars because it's bound to be another wonderful show!

Book Buddies

I was reading a book to Corinna this afternoon for her reading log when Drake volunteered to read with her.

"But just for 15 minutes," he said. Drake has to read every night for his reading log for 15 minutes.

I thought it was a great idea......getting 2 homework assignments done simultaneously works for me. I just had to capture the moment with my camera. If only they always got along so well.

Boy Band

Hayden has enjoyed being a one man band on the Wii Fit Plus.

He stomps to the rhythm and gets his groove on.

He was delighted to surpass J.J. and get the highest score.

Then Hayden moved from the beginner to the advanced setting.

We'll have to see if any of the rest of us can outdo him in the days to come.

At least he's getting some excercise

and perhaps preparing for being a band member or drum major. Only time (this next decade) will tell.

Let me end this post by saying Happy New Year. I don't have any words of wisdom to impart nor resolutions to mention. Yet, I do wish to thank the Lord for His provision in my life in 2009, in the past decade, and ultimately over the past 37 years. I have no doubt that His faithfulness will continue in 2010 and beyond! To God be the glory!
