Tour of Duty

It was an unexpected assignment. There were twists and turns. Some days went well and other days the battle was hard to fight. I was stationed in third grade!

I got a call the night before the first day of school. I was asked to report to a 3rd grade class at 0700 the next morning.  Well, that turned into nearly six weeks. The class was small in number but had a few big issues. I had great support from others on the front lines. They backed me up. At times I was rescued.

For me, the tour was exhausting. It started taking a toll on my family. The commander-in-chief called in the special forces.

I stayed with my platoon for about a week beyond what my contract outlined. The teacher's leave of absence was extended but it was time for me to return home. Roger that!

My tour of duty is over. I have been home for about a week and have accepted another tour, this time in first grade. I will deploy to another school. I'll lead a different battalion. I shall carry on!
