From The Pool To School

How did the summer pass so quickly?  On Friday, we spent our last day of summer break at the pool.

We were fortunate to enjoy many afternoons there, interacting with friends and having fun in the sun.

I remember spending many a day at Tyro Pool when I was growing up.  It is my hope that my children will look back at their days at Lexington Swim Club with fond memories.

Here's some diving board action:

Yesterday, we began a new school year.  It's always a challenge to get back into the swing of things, but we anticipate a great year.

We met all of the teachers last week and I am confident that the Lord placed each of my children with wonderful, compassionate educators.
Only 179 more school days to go until our next summer break, but who's counting? Or just 178 after today!

Now, let's just hope these three save the silly behavior for the homefront!

To update everyone on what happened with my pursuit of a full-time teaching position, I will disclose that I did not receive a job offer.  I accept this fact as God's plan for our family.  Therefore, it is my intent to continue substitute teaching this school year.  I look forward to the substitute teaching opportunites that will lie ahead.  And on days like today, when I am at home, I will rejoice in more time to care for my family.

Back To The Beach

Hayden, Corinna and I spent most of last week at the beach.  I'm just now getting around to blogging about it, but we had a relaxing time!

There were quite a lot of rocks to contend with this time as the tide came in.

I always wonder why sometimes there are rocks and other times there are not.  We didn't see any jellyfish or sharks....so that's a plus!

We headed over to Southport in route to the aquarium and you'd have thought they were filming a movie.  Oh, they were!  Nicholas Sparks' book Safe Haven is being made and they were reinacting Southport's annual Fourth of July parade.

We rode the ferry over to Fort Fisher.

Jake's family was camping in nerby North Myrtle, so they joined our field trip.

We reached Fort Fisher Aquarium with just about an hour to look around.  Thank goodness wegot in free with my family zoo membership.

I sure will miss Oak Island.  Hope to make it back in the fall.  If I can't fit it in, I will be back in late December and plan to stay there and ring in 2013.

The Big 4-0

I turned 40 on Friday.  Actually, it was easier than turning 30, I do believe.  I had a great day and was able to enjoy my night at CrossMovement Dance's Night of Worship.  I am thankful for 40 years of life and hope I've finally grown up (doubtful).  I trust that my 40th year is going to a a great one.  I am still waiting to hear if I will re-enter the teaching profession full-time or continue as a sub.  Whatever happens, I will choose to be content and to live each day to the fullest.
Maybe being 40 will be fabulous!

3v3 Soccer Tournament

Both Drake and Corinna played in a 3v3 soccer tournament this past weekend.  It was the first of 4 consecutive soccer weekends for us. 3v3 games are only 20 minutes each so there was a mixture of time spend in the sun and in the shade.  And boy was it hot!

During the weekend, they each played 7 games.  They also spent time bonding with their teammates.

Drake and Corinna each gave it their all and played soccer with a lot of heart.

Drake's team finished 2nd in their division.  We will return to the same complex next weekend where Corinna will play again, this time in the Kick It 3v3 Tour. Corinna's team was playing up an age group.  Those girls were huge.  Perhaps this weekend the Heat (her team name) will bring home a trophy.
