Arkeology

Our children went to Bible School at our neighbor's church a few weeks ago. During Bible School, the attendees learned a short play/musical called Arkeology. It told the story of Noah building the ark from the animals' perspectives.

Here's the entire cast. They worked hard and did a wonderful job.

Corinna was a sitting duck.

Drake had a solo and was a cow.

As the wolf, Hayden had several sets of lines and a solo rap as well.

After the performance we gathered for some homemade ice cream. We had a delightful evening.

Below is a snippet from the song "Crocodile Crawl."

A Lunch Date & A Playdate

Corinna and I had a lunch date Tuesday after she met her teacher.

We enjoyed going to Miss Ruby's Tea Room until it closed in December due to the owner moving. Now, Lexington has a new tea house in town.

As you can see, Corinna got dressed up in her high heels, makeshift garter (aka a scrunchie), and her C purse. She even had a check she'd written in her purse, but the man at the cash register said she'd have to take it to the bank when she tried to pay the tab.

Corinna took a picture of me.

And here she is. We had a delightful time.

Today, Corinna enjoyed a playdate with Kristin. She was eager to help "babysit" her friend's younger sister.

Bubble time.

Kristin liked popping them.

Got out the ballet slippers. The girls put on a show. We only had one pair of ballet shoes so they took turns wearing them.

Corinna in motion.

We made lemon bars.

K and C did a little singing while they baked and cooled.

Ate some after lunch.

Corinna taught Kristin some hand jives.

Around 4:30 it was quiet and I found the girls in Latte's kennel. I promise I didn't lock them in. However, that may be a good option in about 10 years when Corinna is asking to go on dates with boys.

Back-to-School Beach Blast

We spent last Friday through Monday morning at the beach with Bill....Hurricane Bill that is. He visited the Atlantic which made the water rough and the rip tide strong. That did not put a damper on our stay, however.

We still got our feet wet.

enjoyed a little man-made pool

We were excited to get some fish prepared by the Elk's Lodge.

Yummy! Two plates were more than 5 of us could eat.

Of course we stopped by The Leaky-Tiki

for some karoke.

We discovered this on a night walk.

The children were thrilled that their "cousins" came to Oak Island for the weekend too. Blake pulls the boys on their boogie boards since they couldn't ride the big waves.

Ma Ma smiles with all of her grandchildren. We had a great time and made it back to Lexington late Monday afternoon, in time to meet the teachers.

Two For Tuesday: B-2-S Pics

It's the first day of school. 179 more days after today. Drake is in 2nd and Hayden is in 4th grade.
Corinna will meet her teacher later today and have her first full day of Kindergarten tomorrow. We are praying for a wonderful school year.

Field Trip: Catawba Science Center

We took a field trip yesterday to the Catawba Science Center in Hickory. My aunt works there and she hooked us up with some free passes.

Shortly after we arrived, she had some pizza waiting for us in one of the classrooms. Thanks Anne; it was delicious. The pizza was from a local place and their specialty is alfredo sauce on some of their signature pizzas, such as chicken and roasted red pepper.

Now for some spinning action. We actually did this before lunch.

We visited the aquarium area twice.

The boys loved petting the sharks.

And stingrays.

We didn't pet the albino Burmese python.

Met a little raccoon.

She wanted out of her cage.

The rock climbing wall was a hit, but it was hot outside.

My sis-in-law Kelly gets a grip.

My turn!

Olivia climbs up.

Corinna, too.

Noah and Hayden follow suit.

Our crew stops for a group shot upon departure. We had a great day of fun and learning. The Catawba Science Center also has a planetarium, but we didn't make it to the show on this visit. To my homeschooling friends, and others who may be interested, the Catawba Science Center is free to the public on Fridays. Check out their website at http://www.catawbascience.org/.
