Flashback Friday: Boone Camping Trip

We enjoyed a long weekend of camping in Boone back in October. We took advantage of a day off of school and the fact that we had no soccer games scheduled. We stated at Flintlock Campground.

The atmosphere was relaxing.
Although the sites were very close together, we enjoyed the creek and the quiet.

Rain was in the forcast but it was minimal. The air was cool and crisp and the leaves were beautiful with color.

We walked around the ASU campus. It has changed a lot since my days there but it is always great to be back!

We did a little hiking despite the fog.

We went to one of my favorite overlooks, Beacon Heights. In college it was the best spot for stargazing.

We also meandered around The Shoppes on the Parkway.

Here's proof that JJ went shopping.

We stopped for milkshakes too.

Here are a few more pictures from around the campground.

We had a great time as a family in Boone!

Flashback Friday: Roan Mountain State Park

In late June/early July, we took a family camping trip. It was our first experience at a Tennessee State Park.

Since we often camp with a group, our children aren't as excited when it's just us. However, it was quality family time despite a good bit of rain.

We took a hike...

Went swimming...

Watched some soccer....

And even attended Bible School!

I believe the church was actually Roan Creek Baptist. They served supper each night, played games, provided music, crafts and a gospel message. It was a great outreach and there were volunteers of all ages. We were blessed.

One not so fond memory of the trip was when we ran into a yellow jackets nest. They were playing in the creek and then...

Poor Java got the worst of the stings, even though  Drake and Corinna also got several stings. We gave our Java girl some Benadryl after visiting the camp store.

Overall, we were pleased with our visit to Roan Mountain State park. It wasn't too far from Boone and Banner Elk.

Coming up next, our fall camping trip to Boone...
