Thanksgiving at the Beach

For the past several years, it has been my tradition to go to the beach over Thanksgiving.  It has become JJ's tradition (and now Drake's) to spend several days in the woods deer hunting.  Although we choose to spend Thanksgiving apart, we are very grateful for our many blessings.  Being able to head down to the beach for Thanksgiving is a luxury to me.

Corinna was excited that her friend Laci and my friend Beth joined us this year.  The Broom boys stayed home to hunt too.  They all were invited to skeet shoot and eat Thanksgiving lunch with a very hospitable family from church.

We had a pretty good Thanksgiving meal ourselves.  Some of it came from Cracker Barrel-to-go and the other sides we fixed ourselves.

It was a beautiful day to eat our meal overlooking the ocean.

We also spent our afternoons frolicking on the beach.

Corinna practiced cartwheels and became quite proficient.  I even did a few cartwheels myself!

 Water fight!

We remembered the pumpkin pie!

On Thanksgiving night,  we saw a movie and had popcorn and soda for supper.

On Black Friday, we resisted the urge to go shopping and took the ferry to the aquarium at Fort Fisher instead.  Another lovely day.

Corinna and Laci make a fashion statement by repurposing their 3D movie glasses.

Into the hurricane simulator they go!

Beth treated us to lunch.

And we all headed back to the beach.

Relaxing on the beach, reading, watching Hallmark movies, eating....

witnessing glorious sunsets.....

I am so thankful!

Tom Sawyer's Sheriff

Last weekend, Lexington Youth Theatre gave three stellar performances of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."  Hayden did a manificent job portraying the sheriff.

He even wore badge that was borrowed from our neighbor.

I guess that made the arrest of Muff Potter official!

In addition, he developed his own unique accent for delivering his lines.  Currently, the videos I took with my phone are coming up sideways, but I hope to post one soon.  Trust me, Hayden did a fantastic job, as did the other cast members.

Hayden's teachers, Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Surratt came to the show.
Notice the stache he grew after the dress rehearsals.

You did an outstanding job Sheriff Hayden.  You arrested our hearts every moment you were on the stage!!!  You made us very proud.

That's How We Roll!

All three of the kiddos made the Honor Roll.  Hayden made the A/B Honor Roll at Central Middle.  The B's that he received were 92's which is one point from an A.  Drake and Corinna made the A Honor Roll at Southwood.  We are very pleased with their hard work and exceptional grades for the first quarter. Keep up the great work!  We love you!

Too Busy To Blog

I've been intending to blog about what's happened in our lives over the past several weeks but I haven't found the time.  Hayden has been rehearsing daily for LYT's production of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." The shows are this weekend.  Drake and Corinna finished their regular soccer seasons last weekend and are now practicing for upcoming tournaments.

I have been getting a lot of substituting opportunites lately with most of them being in 4th and 5th grades.  I must admit, teaching the older elementary students is growing on me but I am still not at the point where I wish to do it daily.  In fact, I recently declined filling in for a 5th grade teacher who is expecting her first child any day now.  I decided to just say "no" and I feel good about my choice.

Our family has enjoyed the fall season and the beauty of the changing leaves.  I am actually glad to feel some colder temperatures.  It's my favorite season!

Now, I just got in from being at the Civic Center after 6 hours of drama and I am waiting to see who American citzens elected as president like millions of others in our nation.  I might have to wait until I awake in the morning since I am pretty tired.

I just hated seeing that it has been 2 weeks since I posted.  I hope to play catch-up with my blog soon.

Stay tuned!
